From Caelia Reborn

I will try and make this page dedicated to useful stuff that you (as players) should know, that you (your characters) would definitely know.

World Events

The Divine Moot

Every 50 years, a gathering of all the various churches throughout Cruseryx takes place to select a new cohort of Holy Champions. These Champions are each a paragon of their respective god, representing their values and virtues to the world and acting as the spearhead for many of their activities in the Material Plane. The Champions channel the power of their gods directly, making them among the most powerful mortal creatures in Cruseryx for the duration of their tenure.

For the first time since the crowning of Emperor Aurelius Scarro, the Moot is being hosted by the Crown within the Royal Palace.

The Third Under-War

For the third time in as many millennia, the Underdark has once again pushed for war with the Dwarves for the sole purpose of pushing them out of the World Below once and for all. Both of the previous iterations of this historic feud have ended in a bloody enough stalemate for both sides to sign truces only a few months or years later, however the most recent conflict has taken a different turn.

Dwarven lines have been broken, and the armed forces of The Luminos Alliance push closer and closer to the great walled bastions that separate the underground cities of Ebonmount with their surface level counterparts.

Understanding the severity of such a situation, the Imperial Senate granted emergency power to the Emperor, allowing him to dispatch the Imperial 4th Legion to provide a buffer so that Dwarven forces may regroup. This act alone has caused a great stir within the Empires political circles, as some believe it to be a sign of the current period of Waning coming to a close.

The Ghostfire Rebellion

Drakkenwall Faultlines

Built rapidly after the devastating eruption of Mount Pyre that caused overwhelming damage to the Dragonborn civilisations in the region, the Drakkenwall represents different things to different people. To some it is a shining example of the Empire protection against unnatural threats and cataclysmic destruction, whilst to others it shows how quickly the Empire is willing to turn its back on allies should the situation call for it.

Whilst it was originally intended to keep the Ashen Spawn - creations of the cursed mountain - out, it also ended up locking the remaining Dragonborn survivors in, eliminating any hope for escape from the onslaught of ash and fire.

In recent years however, cracks and faultlines along the wall have been discovered and efforts to repair and contain them have been unfruitful. Should this trend of damage to the colossal wall continue, the risk of total structural failure increases in likelihood.

Governance

Local

To a commoner living in a village or a town or city, your immediate 'leader' will likely be your local noble. Sometimes these come in the semi-official capacity as a town mayor, but other times they can simply be in an unofficial capacity as the respected noble family in the area. Either way, most people do not see the looming power structure above that immediate leader, and will often push most of their grievances and concerns towards that person/persons.

Provincial

Within the local area, a Provincial Governor is appointed to provide high-level view and control over a small group of settlements. These Governor's typically are picked from the local nobles, but sometimes can be specially selected from the pool of town mayors, or even local Knights that have committed themselves to the area. Governors are expected to report the goings-on from their settlements to the Imperial Senator, who represents the region in the higher levels of bureaucracy.

Dominium

Above the official posting of Governor, is an Imperial Senator, who is responsible for overseeing a large area of land known as a Dominium, within one of the Empires 8 'Recognised Regions'. These Senators are selected from the ranks of the Governor's and are expected to maintain stability with their region, from financial, to employment and law & order, and are held accountable by the Imperial Senate, located in the Capital. Most regions have a smaller internal council, of which all the Senators within that region are members, providing them collective knowledge and shared responsibility for the region as a whole.

Regional

The internal councils established by regional Senator's group together into blocks, which stand together and (typically) act as a single entity within the Senate. For example the Coastal Council is comprised of five Senators, that each control a large area within The Coastal Protectorate. As far as the Senate is concerned, each of the regions acts as an semi-autonomous entity and receives little to no instruction or direction from the Empire centrally. This allows the regions to act as smaller nations within the larger umbrella of the Empire.

Imperial

At it's highest level of governance (outside of The Emperor himself), the Imperial Senate is the body responsible for maintaining the stability and order of the realm as a whole. Representatives from across all of it's regions come together in the Senate to voice the opinions of local rulers, concerns of the people and current events that are outside of the norm within their areas of influence. Requests for changes, improvements or assistance from the Empire are also discussed in the Senate, with the regional blocks voting for and against resolutions that they believe will have impact on their citizens, or themselves.

The Sagial Calendar

Pronounced [say-G-al], the Sagial Calendar of Cruseryx has existed since the sages of the Second Age implemented it as a way of stabilising the region in the aftermath of the First Primordial War. It has remained structurally stable since then, only having events and special meaning applied to some days throughout the year. When constructing a date using the Sagial Calendar, one should use day (name) within the week, the day (number) within the month, then the month itself, followed by the four numbers that represent the current year, with the current age being separated with a small hyphen, for example:

Tyrsday 14th Suncrest 3029-4A

Days of the Week

Moonsday

Dedicated to the ever shifting phases and cycles of the moon, Moonsday is the day in which the moon sits largest in the sky as it inches closer to Cruseryx, before moving back away in the following days.

Tyrsday

Day dedicated to the Primordial lords of war; Tyr & Myr, who are the Primordial twins that elevated Torina and Azurius to godhood.

Wovenday

Torsday

Named in honour of the Goddess Torina, Torsday is synonymous as a day of planning ahead and thinking for the weekend.

Freidenday

Symbolising the historic day of freedom from primordial oppression, the word freiden itself comes from the old tongue of the pre-war peoples. Some businesses will not be open on this day, allowing workers to begin their weekend

Sesherday

Named in honour of the God Sesher, Seshersday is a day of grieving and remembering, looking back on those lost and paying respect to their memories. Most businesses will not be open on this day

Ages

The Ages of Cruseryx are a 'man-made' construction, that did not exist formally until the early period of the Second Age. It is believed to have been initially formulated by the Kingdom of Andrim between 0164-2A and 0250-2A, then evaluated and later adopted by the Kingdom of Caelia after the two nations assimilated in 0639-2A. Once formally recognised as the Caelian standard, it was imposed as part of the Imperial Standardisation scheme in the early years of the Third Age.

Age Zero

0001-0A - 15,000-0A = The Age of Primordials

The First Age

0001-1A - 20,000-1A = The Age of Tyranny & The Age of First Strife

The Second Age

0001-2A - 1,563-2A = The Age of Kings

The Third Age

0001-3A - 2085-3A = The Age of The Empire

Stereotypes

The Cycle of Power

Originating in the Second Age with the first Caelian Kings, the terms Waxing and Waning have been synonymous with the ebb and flow of power. Each period represented the kind of world that The Empire existed in, and each period was represented by the kind of Emperor that presided over the land at that time. With the Empire always slowly drifting between Waxing and Waning, there are some out in the world that try to predict the change in the tide and make the most of the switch between each way of life.

Waxing

Periods of Waxing are defined by a period of strife and struggle. A time in which the great industrial engine of The Empire is called forth, and The Imperial Legion is bolstered to it's fullest potential.

Waning

A period of Waning is defined by a period of peace and prosperity. A period in which trade and public investment is pursued and all the peoples of The Empire feel empowered.

The first hallmark event in semi-recorded history, the First Primordial War was mortal kinds original struggle against Primordial rule. Through sacrifice and force, the divine power of the Primordials was transferred to mortal beings, laying the foundation for the New Pantheon of gods as we know them.

Often referred to as the 'Great Struggle', Cruseryx served as the battleground between a vengeful triumvirate of Primordials and the majority of mortal life. The alliances and agreements forged in the fires of this devastating conflict laid the foundation of the status quo that remains to this day.
