Rhurdiwynn

From Caelia Reborn

Commonly known as The Deep Mother, She Beneath All Stone, and Keeper of the Veins

Rhurdiwynn governs the silent depths of the world, the veins of ore that run through stone, and the slow, patient labour of those who delve beneath the surface. She is not a goddess of creation, but of discovery, of uncovering what already exists, buried, hidden, and waiting.

To her faithful, the mountain is not an obstacle, it is a living thing, layered with memory, pressure, and time. Every tunnel carved, every vein struck, every cavern opened is an act of conversation between mortal and stone.

Among dwarves, Rhurdiwynn is revered with a quieter devotion than Dulgram. Where the forge roars, the mine listens. She is invoked before the first strike, in the dark hours below, and in the careful judgement of where not to dig.

“She does not hide the riches of the earth. She waits to see who is worthy to find them.” — Delvar Stonevein, Deep Delver of Kan Kholdur, 0274-2A

Truths of The Deep Vein

1. Patience

The stone yields only to those who wait.

  • Do not rush the strike
  • Read the rock before you break it
  • A missed vein is often a lesson ignored
  • Time reveals what force cannot

Rhurdiwynn teaches that haste blinds the delver.

2. Listening

The mountain speaks, though not in words.

  • Feel the tremor before the collapse
  • Hear the hollow before the cavern
  • Notice the change in air, in dust, in silence
  • The unobserved sign is the most dangerous

To mine well is to listen more than act.

3. Respect

The deep is not empty, it is claimed.

  • Take only what you can carry with purpose
  • Do not scar the mountain without reason
  • Leave markers for those who follow
  • Honour the places where the stone resists

Rhurdiwynn does not forbid taking, only thoughtless taking.

4. Burden

What is taken must be carried.

  • Wealth comes with responsibility
  • The deeper you go, the greater the risk
  • Every vein found brings danger with it
  • The mountain always balances what is removed

Riches are never without cost.

Most followers lean:

  • Lawful Neutral
  • Neutral
  • Neutral Good

Rarely chaotic. Rhurdiwynn values method, awareness, and restraint.

Rituals & Traditions

The First Strike

Before mining begins, a single, deliberate strike is made in silence, acknowledging the mountain and asking permission.

The Marking Stone

Tunnels are marked with carved runes indicating safe paths, dangers, and claimed veins, a sacred duty never neglected.

The Breath Check

Miners pause at intervals to sit in silence, feeling air and listening to the stone, ensuring awareness is maintained.

The Sealed Vein

If a vein proves dangerous or unstable, it is ritually sealed rather than greedily pursued.

Taboos

  • Ignoring warning signs within the mine
  • Mining recklessly or without preparation
  • Taking more than can be safely removed
  • Failing to mark danger for others
  • Disturbing deep places known to be unstable or sacred

Rhurdiwynn does not punish greed, she punishes carelessness beneath the weight of the world.
