That gods-damned bastard. Leaving me not only with the blank pages of this journal, but with the litter of pups that he has taken under his wing.

His Angel sent word via letter, I gave it a skim read and passed it along to the Dwarf. The daft arse contacted him through that blasted necklace and started me down a path of playing messenger. Back and forth and back and forth for long enough that I was eventually sick of it and agreed to his requests.

Go to Dolrath and find his missing 'spy'. What fun.

Before they could get too excited with their new task, Phandalin had come uninvited guests of the Hellish variety. I've seen the magic before - Rift Portals Opened from one side and stabilised on the other, not a cheap method either, whoever organised the attack had significant resources. I left the pups to handle the report at the tavern whilst I went to secure the centre of town. Damn glad I did, they committed 3 Rift's at the Townmasters Hall alone, it was good practice though. I haven't had the pleasure of sparring with an Orthon in a long time. I cleaned up that mess and went running when the pups began whining for help.

The fools didn't even destroy the stabilising crystal before I had arrived, it's fortunate that the Envoy uses that spectral bow as it made the process much easier. It seems they had already dealt with the Orthon, but only one of them showed up from their portal... The Orthon was not the most interesting thing to come out from their portal however, the presence of an Abishai is what intrigues me most. I wonder what business Tiamat has in the small, isolated town of Phandalin.

The fight was over soon after I arrived, unsurprisingly. It turned out that the old innkeep fell victim during the attack. I could tell they were all standing around the body trying to figure out if they were responsible or if the Orthon could claim that credit. The Envoy chose to use one of his divine boons on the poor body, forcing it to report its findings. I approve of the resourcefulness of course, but I know for certain that he would have claimed it was a 'wasted soul'. I was not inclined to intervene.

They all seemed to grieve quick, not even a funeral for the poor bastard before they all committed to leaving the town for bigger and better things. The road to Dolrath will be long, and knowing these pups, eventful the whole way. I was proven correct at the first hurdle, with the toll guards at Triboar taking particular interest in the Envoy. The wording of his explanation did not help the matter, people around here don't need any extra reason to give foreigners the cold shoulder.

I guess we shall see how this ends up. I'm not worried, not for myself at least.
