New page

When pondering the existence of Goblinoids, one can draw some simple conclusions based on the following quote;
“If you want soldiers or thugs, hire hobgoblins. If you want someone clubbed to death in their sleep, hire bugbears. If you want mean little fools, hire goblins.”

Goblins
Small, cunning and with a knack for finding or causing trouble, Goblins are typically the embodiment of a chaotic society. They tend to live in tribal villages under a warlord or shaman, believe that 'Might equals Right' and that only the strong should lead. Due to their diminutive size and inferior physical characteristics, this usually means they are ruled or led by one of the other Goblinoids in this section. Those goblins that have broken free from the yolk of their normal power structures have shown a great amount of charisma and adaptability, leading to a strangely endearing quality.

Bugbears
Standing almost 7" tall, just the sight of a Bugbear can often be enough for a commoner or poorly motivated guard to flee and abandon their homes. Much like Goblins, Bugbears often live in loose, brutal tribes and value strength and cunning above all else. Something I have consistently noticed when encountering Bugbears is that despite their fearsome reputation, they possess a lazy, self-indulgent streak and are often content to let others do the hard work unless motivated by greed, survival, or a strong leader.

Hobgoblins
Of all the Goblinoids found in Cruseryx, the Hobgoblins are the ones that I find the most concerning. Whilst they are neither the strongest, or the most numerous, they are by far the most intelligent and capable of independent thinking. In the absence of a more civilised race taking the lead, Hobgoblins naturally fall into the role of a battlefield commander, and excel in this function to a worrying degree.
